Visitor’s guide to the best beaches of Eastern Cuba

The Cuban beaches are simply some of the best in the world. There are hundreds of beautiful beaches on the Isla de la Juventud (the main island of Cuba) and also on the archipelagos of Cuba. The Cuban resorts are spectacular and very popular. Cuba’s best attractions, the spectacular beaches attract millions of tourists every year. Choosing the best beach in Cuba is a hard task, as it really comes down to personal preference. First of all, you have to decide which part of the country will you visit, the eastern or the western one. Below there will be presented some of the best beaches of Eastern Cuba. Some of them can be very crowded, but if it doesn’t bother you, I guarantee that you will have part of an unforgettable experience.

 

Varadero

 

As Cuba’s largest and most popular beach resort, Varadero is located in the province of Matanzas, on the Hicacos Peninsula. It is also called Playa Azul, having over 20 km of white sandy beaches. Varadero also has natural attractions such as caves and a chain of spectacular virgin cays. There are also cultural and historical attractions in the vicinity, such as the cities of Matanzas and Cárdenas. Varadero has luxurious hotel rooms, restaurants and shops. There are several activities for visitors here, as there is a golf club in Varadero, the Delfinario, the famous Josone Park or the House of Rum.

Cayo Coco

 

The well-known island and also resort of Cayo Coco is situated on one of the world’s largest coral reefs. It is also one of Cuba’s biggest beach resorts and its virgin beaches and turquoise blue waters attract thousands of tourists every year. This oasis of peace is the perfect choice for nature lovers and for those who would like to relax on some spectacular beaches. The island has its own international airport, the Jardines del Rey Airport which makes it easily accessible for everyone. There are luxurious hotels on the island. For the lovers of watersports, it s also a very good choice, as there are several activities here, like kitesurfing, windsurfing or sailing.

Playa Santa Lucia

 

With several kilometers of soft, sandy beaches full of wavering coconut palms, Santa Lucia is the main resort in the province of Camaguey. The warm, clear, turquoise blue waters are perfect for swimming, but diving is also a good option, as there are gorgeous coral reefs in the sea. This is very popular with divers. Santa Lucia is the perfect place to relax, make long walks and also to eat delicious Cuban food. There are fantastic restaurants, bars, shops and also fine hotels in Santa Lucia.

 

Playa Guardalavaca

 

Guardalavaca is actually the name of a seaside town. It is located in the Holguín Province of Cuba. The area is a very popular tourist location due to its white sandy beaches and clear, warm waters. The crystal clear waters are home to stunning coral reefs and an impressive abundance of marine life. It is not surprising that Guardalavaca had become a popular destination for snorkelers and divers. Besides scuba diving, the resort offers the visitors other fantastic activities, such as swimming with the dolphins or horse riding. If you would like to visit some towns, not just to lie on the beach, you can get easily and quickly to Santiago de Cuba or Baracoa. As for the accommodation, there are excellent hotels in Guardalavaca. Just relax and don’t worry, you will have part here of the famous Cuban hospitality, delicious food, wine and great entertainment.
