Visit Central Cuba

Cuba is one of the Caribbean’s most attractive and most visited countries. With amazing cultural and natural heritage, it is a popular destination among tourists. In the following article I will present you Central Cuba which includes five fantastic provinces: Matanzas, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila. These provinces, especially Matanzas and Cienfuegos include outstanding and popular tourist attractions, being major tourist destinations of the country. The fantastic city of Cienfuegos, the Cienaga de Zapata, the beautiful city of Matanzas and the famous resort of Varadero are just some of the outstanding tourist attractions of Central Cuba.


It is a very popular city among tourists, including numerous fantastic attractions. The city centre was even inscribed on the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. The great tourist attractions include the following: the beautiful Jagua Fortress, the botanic garden, the cathedral, the José Martí Park, the delfinario, the Palacio de Valle and so on. This city is undoubtedly an outstanding tourist destination.

Cienaga de Zapata

The wonderful Zapata Swamp can be found in the province of Matanzas. The famous swamp is home to numerous endemic species of animals, such as the Cuban Crocodile and plants. It is extremely popular among tourists, attracting dozens of visitors each year with its gorgeous ponds, rivers, forests, flooded caverns and so on. The biosphere reserve is the Caribbean’s largest one.

The capital of the province with the same name, Matanzas is also a very popular destination for visitors. The deluge of the attractions attracts numerous tourists each year. The Catedral San Carlos de Borromeo, the Sauto Theatre, the San Carlos Cemetery and also the nearby fantastic Bellamar Caves are just some of the gorgeous attractions of Matanzas.


Situated also in the province of Matanzas, Varadero is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Cuba. The long, white sandy beach attracts over one million tourists each year. Besides the beach and the great hotels, Varadero also offers beautiful natural attractions situated closely to the town, such as cays and caves. It is surely a fantastic resort.

Another major tourist destination, Trinidad is situated in the province of Sancti Spíritus. The town was inscribed on the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Not only the town and its attractions, but the nearby natural heritage is also very popular among visitors. Trinidad is considered a museum itself, including numerous museums.

Santa Clara

The provincial capital of the province of Villa Clara can be found almost in the centre of Cuba. With dozens of great attractions, the city is very popular for visitors. There are numerous squares and parks in Santa Clara, not to mention the beautiful cathedral, its theatre and the Loma del Caprio hill. Santa Clara is a must-visit of the province.


Morón is situated in the province of Ciego de Ávila. It includes great tourist attractions, such as the municipal museum or the symbol of city, the rooster. Besides, it is the closest city to Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco, two popular seaside resorts.
