The fantastic archipelago named Jardines del Rey is a top tourist destination in Cuba. The “King’s Gardens” belongs to the province of Ciego de Ávila and consists of a number of islands which are famous for their scenic beaches. Two of the most popular islands of the archipelago are Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. Both attract innumerable tourists every year.

The beaches

As I already mentioned it, Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo are the most popular islands of the archipelago. Cayo Coco is a premier tourist destination of Cuba. It is famous for its excellent beaches and drags innumerable tourists. There are totally 9 beaches stretching on a distance of about 22 km. The beaches are characterized by white sand and crystal clear waters. The island is also famous for its vegetation and fauna, with about 150 species of birds living here. Playa Flamingo is one of its most beautiful beaches. It was named after the lovely pink birds which can be found here.

Cayo Guillermo is also very popular among tourists. Cayo Coco is connected to the mainland by an extremely long causeway, while Cayo Guillermo is connected by another causeway to Cayo Coco. With 6 km of beaches, it is a fantastic holiday destination. One of its more scenic beaches is Playa Pilar. With white and soft sand, it is a gorgeous beach to relax, sunbath and swim.

Accommodation

The archipelago of Jardines del Rey is full of astonishing hotels and resorts. One of the most important and most popular hotel groups is the Melia group. The major hotels and resorts are situated on Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. The Club Tryp Cayo Coco Hotel, the Melia Cayo Coco Hotel, the Melia Cayo Guillermo, the Iberostar Daiquiri and the NH Crystal Laguna are just some of the best options for accommodation.

Outdoor activities

The archipelago offers a large variety of outdoor activities, including water sports and land adventures. Among the most popular water sports are snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, fishing and sailing.

There are numerous sites where you can rent a boat, not to mention the excellent dive centres on the islands. If you are a nature-lover, I suggest you to explore as many islands as you can. There are organized different excursions and eco-safaris here.

Ecotourism

Jardines del Rey is abundant in natural wonders, some of which are protected areas. Explore as many as you can: visit the El Baga National Park, watch the flamingos at Parador la Silla or wander in the lush vegetation.
