After a tough start to the season, the Western Sydney Wanderers Ninja A-League squad finally got the breakthrough they\u2019ve been chasing, claiming their first win last weekend against Brisbane Roar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head Coach Geoff Abrahams couldn\u2019t hide his pride – this wasn\u2019t just about the three points, it was a statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confidence, character, and belief were all on show, with glimpses of the style of football Abrahams has been building all pre-season. The clean sheet was just the cherry on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were never too fazed about the results in the first two weeks,\u201d Abrahams said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we played a lot of good football and saw glimpses of what we want to be about this year. But it\u00a0is\u00a0important to get results, just for belief. I wanted the girls to believe in themselves as much as I believe in them, and they really showed that on the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a performance packed with standout contributions. new arrival and Korean international Sonny grabbed her starting opportunity with both hands, proving she\u2019s one to watch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was good to see her get a start. She looks to be a very good player, which is what we expected,\u201d Abrahams said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danika Matos put in another performance that lived up to every expectation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHer best games are a nine and her worst are probably an eight,\u201d Abrahams added with a grin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ella Buchanan continued her strong run, while defensive anchors Poppy Hooks, Alana Cerne, and goalkeeper Sham Khamis held the backline with composure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the players coming off the bench slotted in seamlessly, showing the squad\u2019s depth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was excellent from everyone involved,\u201d Abrahams said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there\u2019s no time to rest on their laurels. The Wanderers are turning their focus to a tough away clash with Newcastle, ready to back up their first win with another strong performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m very conscious that we\u2019ve only got one win. We need to back that up now,\u201d Abrahams said<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe enjoyed the win, it\u2019s great for our belief, but that needs to continue this week with another good performance.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confidence is high, but the team knows discipline and execution will be key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding extra excitement to the squad, Chinese internationals Wang Ying and Yuan Cong from\u00a0Guangdong have arrived in Western Sydney this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While they haven’t hit the pitch yet, there’s hope fans might seen them soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey only got here last night and met the girls today. They didn\u2019t get on the pitch and there\u2019s some paperwork to be done. So I\u2019m not 100% sure, but hopefully they\u2019re in the squad and we can get to see a little cameo from them,\u201d Abrahams said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
